One of Microsoft’s obsessions with its new operating system Windows 11 is to remove most of the old and obsolete features. It has made a point of leaving behind many old functions and elements and adding new useful functionalities. One of the most interesting, currently in Beta phase, is Favorites inside of the File Browseras well as the Recent and Shared section.
Surely, and by now, you already know that Microsoft intends to remove the Control Panel from Windows 11. It is not the only option that will end up being deleted in this operating system, there will be other functions and features that will end up being deleted. At the same time, new features will be added to expand the possibilities of the operating system.
The new feature is currently limited to just those members of the Insiders program. This “Favorites” feature within “File Explorer” is simply under development. This function will be between “Recent” and “Shared”
New option to mark important files
Apparently, this new feature is present in version 22635.3640 Beta only available to members of the Insiders program. Note that the release notes page does not have any reference to new functions or features for “File Explorer.”
Through this new version we will now have the new “Favorites” function between “Recent” and “Shared”. We can add all the files and folders we want within this new function. It is something particularly interesting if we have files or folders that we access on a recurring basis.
Those who already have this new feature have been forced to make some adjustments. The ViVeTool app is required to be used to activate this feature. If you are an Insider and have this update, you must make these settings:
- You must download and install ViVeTool from the official GitHub page.
- Next, we must press the key combination “Win + X”.
- The next step is to select “Terminal (Admin)”.
- Now, we have to change the “Windows Terminal” to the “Command Prompt” profile using the “Ctrl + Shift + 2” shortcut. You can also do it by clicking on the date down at the top of the window.
- We must navigate to the folder where the ViVeTool files are using the “CD” command.
- Write the command: vivetool /enable /id:45130483
- Restart the computer.
After carrying out this fairly simple process, we should see this new function. Note that it will only be available if you have the Windows 11 version 22635.3640 Beta, which can only be accessed within Insiders. It is possible that, even if you are within this group, you will not have access to this update, as it may be rolled out little by little.
Unfortunately, we do not know when this new feature will reach all users. We cannot give an estimate either, since some usually take a few weeks to arrive and others take a long time. We will simply have to be attentive to the news.
Additionally, you should note that this new feature also does not appear in the official release notes. An aspect that, unfortunately, is usually quite common for updates that Microsoft wants to hide at all costs.
