And as it is right now, the new function Windows 11 recall It will be enabled by default when it officially launches later this year. As we already told you just a few days ago, this AI will be limited to teams that have the Copilot+ PC label. But with everything and with this, it will not be the most interesting option for those who most care about their privacy.
And one of the characteristics of this intelligence is that it will capture the screen of these devices in five-second intervals. This basically means that, by default, the AI will capture almost everything that appears on the screen. The only exception we find is what we do in private sessions of the web browser.
It is true that users will have the possibility of blocking access to certain applications, but this must be done by hand. From the beginning, Microsoft informs us that screenshots are only stored locally. In turn, they are protected when the user has not logged in to your account. But after logging in, the stored data is accessible to the system and administrator accounts.
What is the big risk of Recall in Windows
We could say that all this information captured by Artificial Intelligence will become a more than lucrative objective for potential attackers. And we must keep in mind that among the captures made automatically, we can find both personal and professional financial documents, or all emails that we go down and send.
In turn, all the websites visited will be saved, except those that we accessed in private browsing mode. Not only that, our activities carried out on the computer will be stored, such as the videos watched, open documents, games, chats, social media messages and more. This entire capture store will become, in many cases, the main objective of potential attackers of our Windows computer.
At the same time, all of this will be available to any other user who accesses our equipment without our permission, or simply by accident. You could encounter operating modes and data that should not fall into the hands of third parties. Hence precisely why the success of Recall is not at all assured when it reaches compatible devices.
Currently, Windows 11 informs the user that Recall is activated on the device, but there is no option to disable AI. There is no doubt that Microsoft should include an option to disable this functionality completely from the installation of the operating system. Otherwise, it is very possible that here we will find a platform that almost no one will want to use and that will cause enormous rejection before its official launch.
Basically, this means that the use of Recall should be optional, since the danger that its use can entail will not please almost anyone, something that we should be able to configure from the windows installation.
