Despite the large number of functions that both Windows 10 and Windows 11 include to customize the operation of the mouse, it lacks some functions that many users may consider basic and that they can only modify using third-party applications or through the mouse application, always and when the manufacturer offers it.
Fortunately, Microsoft engineers are aware of this problem that forces many users to install third party applications and with the launch of build number 26227 of Windows 11 through the Insider channel, the company led by Satya Nadella adds two new functions, functions focused on improving the precision of the mouse in video games and improving the interaction we make with the mouse wheel .
While it is true that these functions were already available through the windows control panelwith the release of this version, Microsoft has finally realized that offering mouse configuration functions independently in other menus did not make any sense.
New Windows 11 mouse settings
With the release of version 26227 of Windows 11, available on the Canary channel, these are the functions that are already available within the mouse configuration options.
- Improve the accuracy of the pointer. This feature allows users to modify cursor acceleration, an option that is generally disabled by users who use their PC for gaming.
- Modify the scroll direction. If we want the mouse wheel to work the opposite of how it does by default, this is the option we must activate.
If you usually have the need to activate or modify any of these values, it is appreciated that Microsoft has realized the problem that it caused for users to delve into the Windows configuration options to modify their operation.
From this moment on, to modify them, it will no longer be necessary to access the mouse. The only thing we have to do is access the mouse properties. If you don’t want to wait to enjoy this feature and the possibility of installing the Canary version of Windows 11 doesn’t cross your mind, below we show you how you can start using them.
How to activate the new configuration options
To activate these new configuration options, we will need the ViveTool application. ViveTool is an application that allows you to activate hidden Windows functions, an application whose development does not depend on Microsoft and that works through the command line and through a graphical interface, although the latter is much more cumbersome to use.
The first thing we must do is download the latest available version of ViveTool from its website on GitHub through this link. Next, we unzip the file, open CMD with administrator permissions and access the directory where we have compressed the file (it is advisable to unzip it in the root of Windows to have it closer at hand).
Next, within the directory where ViveTool is located, we enter the following command and press Enter:
vivetool /enable /id:500122660
For the changes to take effect, it is necessary to restart the PC. To start using them, we must access the mouse properties that we can find in the Bluetooth and devices menu of the Windows configuration options.
