Windows being an operating system with almost 40 years in the market (it turns out next year), the guys at Microsoft have thought about this possibility so, if we want to add more icons to the taskbar without modifying the resolution or the monitor, we can do it from the configuration options, without No need to install any third-party applications.
How to change the size of taskbar icons
With the launch of Windows 11, Microsoft added new Windows configuration options and eliminated others that had been available for many years, being reduce icon size from the taskbar one of them. Fortunately, there are different methods to solve this problem as we show you below.
Windows 10
To reduce the size of the taskbar icons in Windows 10, we must access the Windows configuration options (Win + I) and access the section Personalization. Within this section, in the left column, we must click on Taskbar.
In the right section, we look for the option Use small taskbar buttons and activate the switch. The changes occur instantly, which will allow us to check if it is the solution to the problem we are looking for. We can take advantage of this to hide the taskbar, lock it or change its location on the screen.
Windows 11
As we mentioned above, Microsoft has eliminated the possibility of modifying the size of the icons of the applications located on the taskbar, however, that does not mean that it cannot be done. In fact, we have up to 3 possibilities to do it.
The first goes through modify the scale Windows, available within the System > Display settings options, however, this affects all content displayed on the screen. The second option goes through modify the Windows registrysomething not recommended for novice users.
The third and simplest of all is to use a third-party application. We are talking about Windhawk, a small application that we can download for free from here and that allows us to modify the size of the taskbar icons. Windhawk is an application that we can install on the computer or create a portable version.
Once the application is installed or if we run it in portable mode, we access the Taskbar height and icon size section and click on Details.
Next, click on Install to install this mod. Once installed, from this same window we have the option to choose what type of icon size we want to set by default in Windows 11.
If we want to revert the changes, all we have to do is enter the application configuration options again and select the default size.
