Setting channels on WhatsApp will be a reality soon

Traditionally, WhatsApp has always followed Telegram, which has allowed this platform to become an excellent alternative that is increasingly used around the world, although it still has a long way to go to match the WhatsApp user figures.

It has been a year since the Meta group’s messaging platform, WhatsApp, welcomed the WhatsApp channelsa tool for companies, personalities and, in general, for anyone who wants, to create a one-way communication channel with their followers.

However, this function was not completely complete since it did not allow the channels to be pinned to the top of the application, forcing users to search for the channels they are most interested in watching first among all those that follow.

Last February, a WhatsApp beta added the ability to pin a channel to the top of the application so that it is always shown first before the rest. However, it only allowed one channel to be set, a very limited number compared to the 5 that Telegram allows to set and, for the moment, it was still not officially launched.

Fortunately, it seems that in Meta they do use the most popular messaging application in the world (except in the United States) and according to the guys at WABetaInfo, they are already working on expanding the number of channels that we can fix on top from the Channels section available in the previous beta.

According to the screenshot published by this website, the maximum number of channels that we will be able to set with this messaging application will be two. This new limit is available in version 2.24.13.3 of WhatsApp for Android. While it is true that the limit still seems ridiculous, it will always be better than not having the possibility to do so.

We do not know the reason why WhatsApp does not extend this limit and looking at it from the outside it does not make any sense. I highly doubt that it is due to technical limitations due to the operation of the application (whatsapp’s usual excuse when it does not implement functions available on Telegram).

It is possible that they have run out of ideas and are planning to expand this number in future updates, when they have nothing to add. It is also likely that the Meta group does not want to cannibalize the accounts of large companies that have a channel on Facebook or Instagram, to force users to follow these profiles.

Pin channels on WhatsApp

When we use this channel setting function, these will include a pin on the right side of the channel and, of course, will be displayed at the top of the Channels tab. Next, the rest of the channels that we follow will be shown along with the possibility of searching for new channels to follow.

Regarding the availability date of this new feature, it is a complete mystery. If in February they began testing to set a channel, and that number has now increased to two, it means that Meta is still testing so there is a possibility that this number will be higher when it is launched for all users.
