Dealing with the public administration to carry out a procedure is extremely tedious and highly inefficient. Luckily, there are more and more procedures that can be done electronically, which saves time and headaches. A very interesting one is to obtain your birth certificate totally on-linewhich avoids us having to go to the Civil Registry.
You should know that to request this birth certificate, which is usually requested in many procedures, you must have been born after 1950. If this is not your case, you will have no choice but to wait in line at the Civil Registry. This process is not very complicated, although there are several requirements.
Obtain the birth certificate from home
We have the possibility of obtaining a simple certificate that is only informative or a complete one that is valid for any official procedure. The only condition is that we must have a Cl@ve certificate or a digital certificate. Another option is to make a request to have said document sent to you via postal mail.
You can request it by following these steps:
- You have to access the Electronic Headquarters of the Ministry of Justice, which you can access from here.
- Within the procedures block, we must access the “Birth Certificate” option and click on it.
- Now we can access this procedure using the Cl@ve certificate or with a digital certificate, which appears as “Online processing without identification through Cl@ave.”
- The next thing it asks us to do is select the “Certificate Language” and the “Person requesting the certificate.”
- The next step is to certify relevant data such as date of birth, country of birth, province and town. If we do it without Cl@ve, we must also enter our ID, sex and name. After filling in the fields, we must click on “Next”.
- We go to the last window, which will ask us for different information, such as:
- Type of certificate we want. If you are going to request a DNI, passport or other important document, you are required to obtain the “Literal Birth Certificate.” Remember that the “Extract” model is simply a summary. In addition, we have a “Multilingual” certificate that is created for international procedures and is available in several languages.
- We must establish the number of copies we want. Please note that the maximum number of copies is ten.
- Requests that we establish the recipient, the options being “Public Administration”, the “European Union” and “others.
- For the “Literal Certificate” we will have to indicate the “Reason” and explain the “Purpose”.
- After filling in these fields it will be done and we can click to finish. If we are going to do it without Cl@ve, we must add the postal information to receive it at home by letter.
The process with Cl@ve is much simpler and faster, in addition to obtaining the PDF document. It allows us to save it and thus print it as many times as we want. On the other hand, if we request the document by mail, it is not possible to photocopy it and it will take time, so if you need it with some urgency, you will have a problem.
If you need it quickly, you will have no choice but to go to the nearest Civil Registry. Normally, an appointment is not required, but you should know that many of these points establish a maximum time for document management of this type. Usually it is until 12 noon, but it may be different in your town or area.
