There is no doubt that everything related to Artificial Intelligence is here to stay, although there are proposals that are more accepted than others. One of the most controversial and that has generated the greatest amount of criticism is Microsoft’s Recall, and it hasn’t even been launched yet.

Here we are talking about an AI proposal that has been rumored for a long time and that will be integrated sooner or later in the final versions of Windows 11. It is an extremely powerful function that will allow us to perform advanced searches in the Microsoft operating system, although with a serious drawback. And that is that in order to work correctly, it needs to put our privacy at risk and track everything we do in Windows.

As you can imagine, that’s precisely where all the controversy that Recall is generating even before its release comes from. At this point we can say that even though it’s not yet Available on Windows 11this AI has proven to be extremely controversial since it was first announced a few months ago. As could not be otherwise and from Microsoft’s point of view, Recall will help users in your day to day PC taking snapshots of your activity every few seconds.

This provides a way to go back in time and jump to a previous activity in the event that we have a problem with our computer. But as many of you may remember, such was the stir caused by the implications of this feature for security and privacywhich Microsoft has already made certain concessions for. All of this is to allay widespread complaints about the feature itself.

Microsoft will allow removing Windows Recall

First, the software giant removed the function of the preliminary versions of Windows 11. It later made it clear that it would make this feature available to everyone, but as an option rather than being enabled by default. But despite all this, criticism about the privacy of this AI has not ceased, and from what we now know, it turns out that it will be possible to completely uninstall it from our computers.

This is a discovery made by user Deskmodder, who has already made it public on his own blog. From there we already know that Microsoft has decided not only to make Recall optional, but also to make the entire feature an optional component of Windows 11 for removal.

Of course, at this moment what we do not know is if Recall will be installed by default on Windows 11-compatible machines. Presumably, it will be installed and disabled, but even if it is, there will be the option to uninstall it from the system entirely. It is very likely that even with AI disabled, many users will feel more comfortable removing it entirely, as many consider the privacy violation of this feature to be excessive.

This is something that has been seen in the last Insider versionwhich is great news for all those who have shown their rejection of the Recall feature that Microsoft is trying to sell us from the beginning. Although the company did not expect such a great acceptance of this function, it certainly was not aware of the enormous rejection it would cause.
