For a company owned by Google, the security of its users is paramount. This of course reaches the most used browser such as Chrome, hence the constant updates it sends us, as is the case we are dealing with now.

Every once in a while they appear security flaws or vulnerabilities in this Google program, which the firm has to solve as soon as possible. This is precisely the case in which we find ourselves at this moment. And the search giant has just published a security update so we should update the browser as soon as possible.

It is directed at the aforementioned Chrome and its main objective is to correct the fifth Zero Day vulnerability exploited since the beginning of this year. In addition, I have given a high severity rating which has been named CVE-2024-4671. It must be kept in mind that in this specific case we are referring to a vulnerability in the Visuals component. Say that this is responsible for managing the rendering and display of content in the browser.

Hence precisely the danger of this vulnerability that has just been discovered and that could put data at risk that we handle in the browser. It is worth mentioning that the security flaw CVE-2024-4671 was discovered and reported to Google by an anonymous researcher. Shortly after, the company itself revealed that it is quite likely that this vulnerability is being actively exploited at this time.

What’s more, we can affirm that Google is fully aware that an exploit exists for the aforementioned CVE-2024-4671. That is why he did not want to provide additional information about the security flaw as such.

What to do about this new Chrome vulnerability

The danger that comes with keeping it enabled in our browser is not at all recommended, as it could not be otherwise. Specifically, this security flaw occurs when the program uses a pointer after it has been freed memory to which it points. Since the freed memory could contain different data or be used by other programs, accessing it could cause a data leak.

Hence the search giant urges its hundreds of millions of users to update chrome sooner. Google has fixed the issue by releasing version 124.0.6367.201/.202. This is an update that will reach everyone over the next few days.

To do this, all you have to do is access the main menu of the program and go to the Google Chrome Help / Information option. Once we have restarted the program we will be adequately protected against this specific security flaw.

It must be taken into account that this latest bug addressed in Google Chrome is the fifth of this type detected this year. Fortunately in these cases the search giant usually responds and acts quite quickly. Before the vulnerability spreads massively, it offers us an update, as is the case, so that our data stored and used here is not in danger.
