In this case we want to focus on an application that was recently on the verge of being blocked by a judge in our country. As you can imagine, we are referring to the service of instant messaging, Telegram. Just a few weeks ago he was only a few hours away from a judge ordering his blockade in our country. Fortunately, and once more information about its operation was made known, this judge changed his mind. It was considered that prevent access to Telegram to eight million Spaniards was too much.

But now it seems that the messaging platform is facing another serious problem. And it has received multiple criticisms and threats from the Ministry of Communications of the Malaysian Government for issues related to the piracy. For some time now, the messaging application claims that it is working closely with the Malaysian Police to fight against channels and groups that promote it.

Presumably, even Interpol would have been involved to deal with obscene images of citizens here. In fact, last March, Minister Fahmi Fadzil, head of the Ministry of Communications and Digital, said that he would contact Telegram to discuss these problems. What’s more, he said he appreciated that Telegram provided a useful service and helped clean up the platform from misuse.

How Telegram could act against piracy

It must be taken into account that, as happens in other similar applications and social networks, all types of information are shared on Telegram. Hence, a meeting took place between the founder of the platform, Pavel Durov, and the Malaysian minister. He asked Telegram to expand its operations to crack down on inappropriate content in the app, including piracy.

In principle and as commented in TorrentFreak, Telegram refused to cooperate with the Malaysian Ministry of Communications. He claimed that he did not wish to participate in any form of censorship related to politics. But things changed after some threats to the platform if it did not cooperate. So much so that, recently, the Minister of Communications, Fahmi Fadzilassured that Telegram would be willing to collaborate with the Government to reduce piracy on the platform.

Perhaps one of the measures that could be taken is close channels and groups that encouraged this type of uses against copyright. The aforementioned Minister now affirms that Telegram is already prepared to tackle the piracy problem after several meetings held last April. Furthermore, he assures, this requires the cooperation of distributors and customers. copyright owners.

At the moment there is no official comment from Telegram on the matter, so it is difficult to know how the platform views this informal agreement and how it actually plans to act. Telegram is aware that these measures could extend to many countries. Therefore, we do not yet know if these restriction measures will arrive shortly or at some point in the future, if at all.
