They pose as the Treasury to steal your 2024 Income: avoid this scam

And for a few days now the authorities and security forces have been warning about some cyber attacks in this regard. Specifically, we are referring to certain online scams that are being detected related to the declaration of the Income 2024. What’s more, the Tax Agency itself is advising citizens to take certain precautions when carrying out said declaration.

The main reason for all this has been the enormous increase that has been detected in this type of attacks throughout these weeks.

How they deceive us when making the Income

The first thing we should know at this point is that the modus operandi of hackers is usually through a massive sending of SMS or emails. Obviously, all this content that we can receive through these channels is false. Its main objective is none other than to make us bite.

The vast majority of messages we receive mention an alleged error in the declaration, followed by a malicious attached link. From there we can be victims online of those attackers who want to get our money. Hence, the authorities and state security forces have been warning us of the serious threat that exists these days.

And cybercriminals take advantage of these dates to launch attacks that focus on impersonating the Ministry of Finance or the Tax Agency. All through the false messages that we tell you to steal from us in one way or another. Here they tell us about an alleged error in our Income Tax return form. There is also a variant in which they tell us that we have the possibility of claim money from the Treasury.

In order to resolve the alleged failure or receive that amount, a malicious link is attached that takes us to a website that requests a series of personal data. This includes certain banking information that puts our accounts at risk from the start.

In order to manage all of this, the potential victim must open the attached link, and that’s where the real danger begins. Depending on the data we provide on the malicious website, attackers will be able to get hold of all of it and even steal the money from our accounts.

Prevent hackers from stealing from you

Hence precisely why the National Police has launched a campaign dismantling hoaxes in order to prevent citizens from falling into these scams.

To avoid being victims of these deceptions when making our declaration, the first thing we must do is be cautious. If in doubt, it is best to contact us by phone or in person, with the Tax agency. This way we make sure if the message received is real or a hoax. We should also carefully monitor the attached links to which certain messages redirect us, in many cases the URL makes it clear that it is a scam.

Furthermore, it is important to know that the Administration does not use this type of links to request personal data. In fact, sometimes we will come across messages that contain spelling mistakes and are poorly written, something we should always be wary of.
