There are many reasons why Windows may stop working as intended. Above all, this problem can occur after an update or due to a faulty shutdown or restart process. This is why it is necessary to have a restore point to return to a previous state of the operating system Windows that worked correctly.
You should know that Windows generates restore points periodically automatically. Typically, these points are generated instantly before an update. Additionally, you can generate restore points at your discretion.
We are going to explain in detail how you can generate a restore point. Above all, do it before a Windows update or before making major adjustments and/or changes to the operating system.
Create a custom restore point
The possibility of creating a new restore point is really simple. We are going to leave you the steps in detail:
- Type the term “System” in the Windows search engine and click on it.
- Look on the left, in the “Related configuration options” section for the “System Protection” option.
- A new window will open where we can create this restore point. This option may be disabled.
- If it is disabled, we must click on the “Configure” button.
- Now, you must check the “Enable system protection” option and you can assign the “Disk space usage” that we want to reserve. 10% of the unit’s total capacity is recommended.
- Once the “Maximum Usage” of the storage unit has been assigned, we click “Apply”.
- After activating the function, we must now click the “Create” button to generate a custom system restore point.
- The first thing it asks us to do is generate a name.
- After entering the name, we simply have to click “Create.”

The creation time is quite short, usually taking a few seconds. If something happens, we can restore this kind of “copy” of the operating system. You should know that you can deactivate this function whenever you want, as well as reactivate it when you consider appropriate.
If you have generated several, you can consult the list of all the restore points in this same section. You can consult them like this:
- Within the “System Properties” window we look for the “System Restore” button.
- Now, we must click on the “Next” option.
- Within this section all the restoration points will appear with their names and the dates and times of creation.

We can choose the one we want, but of course, the normal thing is to use the most recent one possible. If you want to delete old restore points that you don’t need, you must follow these steps:
- Also, within the “System Properties” section we must click on the “Configure” button.
- Under “Disk Space Usage” on the left we will see the “Delete” button and click on it.
- Now, all the old restore points will be deleted.

Unfortunately, it does not allow you to delete certain restore points, it loads them all. The good thing is that we can now generate a new clean restore point and thus avoid accumulating old points that do not contribute anything.
