But it is also important that we ourselves take certain precautions to prevent the arrival of these malicious codes not wanted. This means that we should leave aside suspicious web pages that offer us all kinds of content to download. Furthermore, it is never advisable to click on the attached links that we receive via email from unknown contacts that we do not trust.

We must also be careful with certain torrent file downloads which we do via P2P, among many other things. We must keep in mind that a virus can reach us from multiple sources, and even appear to be a completely reliable file at first. Hence, many times we make the mistake of run malicious files without even realizing that it is a virus.

At this point we will tell you that many times the fault lies with a function that by default is disabled in Microsoft’s own system, Windows.

Activate this Windows feature and protect your computer

It may be the case that we are faced with a file that we have downloaded or received with a certain name, which makes it seem reliable. But if we saw its extension, it would undoubtedly raise certain doubts about that reliability. And we must take into consideration that by default Windows does not show us the extensions of the files we manage through Explorer, for example.

Hence now we are going to show you how to leave that feature working and so on. protect ourselves against possible hidden files that contain malware. The first thing we do to activate this feature is open File Explorer, for example with the Win + E key combination.

At the top of the main interface we find a tab called View, in which we find ourselves. Here we are going to find several options, but in the case at hand we must activate the selector Filename extensions.

From that moment on we will have the opportunity to see, both in Windows and in the programs installed here, the default file extensions. This will allow us distrust certain files that we download online or receive via email. For example, it is never advisable to double click on executables (EXE) when they arrive via email.

At the same time, being able to see the extensions of the files we work with in Windows can be very helpful in other day-to-day tasks.
