When we talk about social networks, we directly think of Facebook or Instagram, among others. However, there are more professional proposals that, for example, allow us to find a job more quickly. One of the most popular options of this type for years has been LinkedIn, although we must know how to get the most out of it.

Many professionals, whether they have a current job or are unemployed, use the aforementioned social network for multiple reasons. And it is that the functions that LinkedIn offers us They are very varied for this type of tasks. Many use the platform to find a job if they don’t have one, or to self-promote if they are looking to improve their employment situation.

There are also those who use this social network to take advantage of the courses and training elements that appear constantly. And not only that, since companies, as it could not be otherwise, also use LinkedIn to find future workers. However, sometimes we face serious difficulties when it comes to finding a job suitable to our training and knowledge. Furthermore, as we will see below, the fault is not always ours.

We tell you all this because the aforementioned platform has some internal mechanisms that can work against us. We say this because LinkedIn sometimes automatically discards our job applications based on certain parameters that are beyond our control. In principle, these automations are designed to speed up the selection process by companies. But they can be highly detrimental to those looking for work because they are automatically discarded.

And this modus operandi of LinkedIn can rule out potential workers perfectly qualified, by itself. As we will see below, this is something that we can largely avoid with a few simple steps.

Prevent LinkedIn from harming you when looking for work

And these social network automations, which sometimes use their own AI, discard job requests, and often incorrectly. Hence, we should take into account a series of parameters to prevent this internal function from harming us when it comes to finding the job of our dreams. These are the changes you should make to your profile to avoid this automatic dismissal by LinkedIn.

Be careful with selection questions. One of the elements that this method of discarding our job application uses is the previous selection questions. It is important that we read them and think carefully to adapt to what they are asking of us and thus prevent the social network from automatically discarding our request from the beginning.

Choose the words in your profile carefully. Something that LinkedIn also takes into account are the keywords that define us in the profile that we have created when selecting them for a specific position. Therefore, we should adjust them so that they adapt as much as possible to the type of job we are looking for, even if we have to modify them periodically.

Correctly configure your location. Another of the most important sections for which LinkedIn rejects our requests work alone is related to the location we establish. Depending on where we are applying for the job, we should adjust the personal location based on the job destination. This will help us move our application forward.

Design your CV well. Many tend to lie or simply tell half-truths when designing their resume. When we publish it on the social network, we should be clear and concise about our previous work experience and the studies we have so that we have more options to not be automatically rejected.
