Both tasks are very simple, as long as we know how to do them, since Photoshop is not characterized by being an easy-to-use application, because the number of options it makes available to us is very wide and varied.

If we need to replace the background of a photograph to use a similar one that we have also captured or if we simply want to make a montage, you have come to the perfect article where we are going to show you all the steps to follow to change the background of a photo with Photoshop.

How to replace the background of a photo

The first thing we must be clear about when working with photographs in Photoshop is how it works. Photoshop works through layerslayers that are superimposed on top of each other to modify the result, so, if we want to keep the result and to modify it in the future, we must save the file in .PSD format.

If we save the file in .JPG format, the layers will be unified and we will have to start again from scratch. Once we are clear about the basis of Photoshop, we show you the steps to follow.

Once we open the image that we want to edit, we go to the section Layers and click twice on the padlock shown to eliminate it and be able to work in combination with the background.

Next, in the toolbar located on the right side of the application, click on the third icon to activate the selection tool (we can also activate it by pressing the W button). We hold down the left click until a drop-down menu appears where we must select the option Object Selection Tool.

Next, we direct the mouse cursor towards the object we want to keep and click with the left mouse button. With the object selected, we access the Selection menu and press the Invert option. In this way, the background will become the selected object and to delete it, we just have to press the key combination Control + X. The result will be the object without the background.

If we don’t want lose the bottomwe can press Control + V and paste it on a new layer, a layer that we must hide by clicking on the eye that is shown next to it in the Layers section.

With the image without a background, the last step we must do is drag background image that we want to use to replace the original that it showed. It is recommended that this have the same or higher resolution than the image we are working with to prevent it from appearing pixelated.

The background we use will be placed above the layer we are working with, so we must drag it to the bottom. To do it, We select the layer and drag it down.
