At first, if we talk about a PC with AI We are talking about a computer that, in addition to the processor and graphics, also includes a Neural Processing Unit (NPU) which is responsible for carrying out Artificial Intelligence tasks locally and not in the cloud, so they are not only safer for the user’s privacy, but also much faster.

How to measure PC performance with AI

However, that does not mean that if the computer does not have an NPU it is not capable of managing an AI locally since that is what graphics cards are for. The NPU does the tasks of the graphics card, consuming a minimal part of what the graphics do, which is initially only available in laptops.

So that less knowledgeable users have the opportunity to know if their equipment is designed for run Artificial Intelligence locally, without depending on the cloud (where all the work is done on the servers), the Opera browser has launched a new website that is responsible for measure team performancea link that, coincidentally, only works through your browser.

Opera has launched this website to satisfy the need to be able to evaluate the operation of LLMs (Large Language Models) locally through three performance tests that are responsible for downloading a series of data and analyzing it to obtain a score.

That’s how it works

The first thing we must do is download the latest developer version of Opera available on the market, since this website to analyze the performance of a computer’s Artificial Intelligence only works with this version, which you can download from here. Next, we must visit this link to the Opera website that will be responsible for measuring the performance of the equipment.

Next, click on RUN TEST. In the next window that appears, click on the drop-down box shown at the top to select one of the 3 tests that we can perform:

  • AI Ready: 2B
  • AI Standard: 7B
  • AI Enthusiasts: 13B

Each of these tests downloads a different amount of content (from 2 to 7.5 GB) and will measure the device’s ability to analyze data locally.

Measure PC performance with AI

It is advisable to start with the basic model, AI Ready: 2B. Once we have selected the type of test we want to do, we click on START TEST and wait. Depending on the performance of the equipment and the type of test we select, it may take between 2 and 20 minutes to perform the analysis.

Once finished, it will show a summary with 3 possible results:

  • Not AI Ready.
  • Functional AI.
  • Ready for AI.

Measure PC performance with AI

The more powerful the processor and graphics, the more likely we are that the computer will be, at least AI Functional. If it also includes an NPU, the chances are higher of obtaining the result AI Functional either Ready by AI.
