Windows 11 only has a little over 30% market share, while Windows 10 still has a 65% market share among Microsoft users. This is a problem for the company, since support for W10 ends on October 14, 2025.
As you may know, this Microsoft distribution no longer receives new functions, features and optimizations. Only updates are released that correct errors and various security problems and vulnerabilities. Despite all this, many users are extremely reluctant to switch to the new operating system.
New media player box in Windows 11
One of the most interesting features of Windows 10 that the new operating system has inherited has to do with the media player block. It is especially useful when you are listening to music on Spotify or another platform, as it tells you the song and the group.
Despite the redesign of Windows 11, this widget was completely identical to the previous layout and it looks awful. Above all, it looked horrible on the lock screen, as it was a huge dark grey square that took up a lot of space. A recent Beta update on the Insiders channel modifies the design and integrates it better into the new operating system.
When you lock the screen, you can still control the media player and other similar services. The box was located on the right side, halfway between the bottom corner and the middle. As we have said, it was a huge grey box that does not fit with the design of the operating system.
Microsoft has modified it in the KB5041576 update for the Insiders channel. It has been placed in the center of the screen, attached to the bottom. Not only has its position been modified, but its design has also been changed, adapting it to Microsoft’s operating system.
Okay, it’s an interesting change, like some others the company has made for its latest operating system. Despite all these small updates, improvements and additions, it’s still not enough to attract users.
Recently, it has integrated Copilot+, a set of functions and features that only works with processors that have NPU cores. These are a new type of core specifically designed for local artificial intelligence tasks.
This new feature has generated quite a bit of rejection from users. Users are annoyed at having to update their computer to be able to enjoy this feature. Tasks that could easily be performed by the processor’s iGPU, which is usually inactive if there is a dedicated GPU in the system.
Microsoft should urgently start addressing user demands. Since July 2022, Linux has doubled its user base, going from 2.2% to 4.5% of the market share. It may seem like a small thing, but this has never happened before, and it seems that Windows 11 is to blame.
